CONTINUING THE WORK

I’m thrilled to share with you the journey that led me to establish Continuing The Work (CTW), a beacon of hope and progress in Chicago's vibrant Austin community. Born and raised in this very neighborhood, my life has been deeply intertwined with the joys, struggles, and resilient spirit of Austin. Growing up here, I witnessed firsthand the critical gaps in resources that could empower our community members to thrive—gaps in education, housing, and employment opportunities.

Driven by a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of community support and my personal experiences of adversity and triumph, I founded CTW. This initiative is not just a project; it's a culmination of lifelong learning and a heartfelt response to the needs I've seen go unmet for too long. CTW is my commitment to returning the strength and support this community has given me throughout my life.

At its core, CTW aims to interweave essential services—education, affordable housing, and job training—into a single, supportive environment. We understand that the challenges faced by our community are interconnected, and thus, our solutions must be integrated. Our educational programs are designed to offer both youth and adults opportunities to learn in dynamic, supportive settings that encourage growth and innovation. Beyond education, we recognize the urgent need for affordable housing, which is why CTW also focuses on providing reliable housing options that residents can truly afford, fostering a sense of stability and security.

Furthermore, our job training initiatives are tailored to equip individuals with the skills necessary in today’s job market, ensuring they are not only prepared but are also given opportunities to succeed. Each of these services feeds into a larger ecosystem of support, creating a framework where education, living conditions, and economic opportunities uplift one another.

The path to establishing CTW has been filled with challenges and learning experiences. Yet, with each setback, my resolve has only strengthened, driven by the countless stories of potential and perseverance I encounter every day in Austin. The success of CTW is measured by every individual who finds hope, every family that gains stability, and every young person who believes in a brighter future because of the support they received.

As we move forward, I invite you to join us in this meaningful journey. Whether you’re a fellow Austin resident, a potential collaborator, or someone who shares our vision for a stronger community, your support is invaluable. Together, we can continue the work—work that doesn’t just change lives but weaves a tapestry of sustained community strength and pride.

Thank you for believing in this vision. Let’s make it a reality, together.

Let's Name a Street.

Building a Better Community One person at a time" Was his motto

Honoring the profound legacy of Rev. Lewis Flowers Jr. has evolved into a deeply personal mission for me, one that transcends mere memory into the realm of tangible recognition. My father was not only a pillar of strength in our family but a relentless advocate for the rights and development of Chicago's West Side, especially within the Austin community. His unwavering commitment to social justice and community empowerment left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him and on the many lives he touched.

It is my heartfelt goal to ensure his legacy endures in a manner befitting his impact—by naming a street after him in the community he cherished and served so diligently. This act of naming a street is not just a symbolic gesture but a permanent reminder of his contributions and a beacon of inspiration for current and future generations. It will serve as a daily reminder of what one committed individual can achieve and a call to action for others to strive for equity and unity within their communities.

Achieving this would not only fulfill a personal dream but would also publicly affirm the importance of community leaders who dedicate their lives to uplifting others. It is a tribute to a man who gave so much and a declaration that his fight for a better, more inclusive Chicago will continue to resonate and inspire.

We want to make sure we also celebrate REV.

"I've been away for much to long."

I started out as a note-taker at meetings, for my father and that led to me being the executive director, for the organization my father ran. I also was over the youth, education, and workforce development committees within that organization. I understand that this work takes patience and commitment. I also know that you must want to do this work, which are all things that not only I do but I have lived. I am committed to networking, getting out and talking to others, which will continue to level me up in what’s going on in my city. I am here for the long haul; I am a lifelong “super fan” of community organizing. And I hope to bring a bright and strong voice to help empower Austin.
